Why are Electric Bicycles so Popular?
E-bikes are a blast to ride.  Also:

Overall, the popularity of e-bikes is due to their many benefits, including convenience, environmental sustainability, health benefits, cost savings, and fun factor. As more people become aware of these benefits, e-bikes are likely to continue to grow in popularity.

    Ebikes as  Low Power Motorcycles

A lot of Electric Bicycles get ridden almost like a motorcycle.  The riders never pedal and only use the throttle.  Most Ebikes will work fine this way however you will drain the battery quickly.  To me this is crazy as I am always looking to get exercise when I am on my E-Bike.

Are Electric Bikes more expensive than Regular bikes?

Good Electric bikes are significantly more expensive than regular bikes because of the added cost of the motor and battery. However, the price of e-bikes has been decreasing in recent years as the technology becomes more common.  The largest extra expense in building most Electric Bicycles is the battery.   The battery alone will often cost between $300 and $1000.

Do I need a license to ride an Electric Bike?

In most countries and in all the the states in the United States, you do not need a license to ride an electric bike, but there may be age restrictions and speed limits.  Currently in the US if you are riding a Category 1, 2, or 3 Electric Bike you will not need a drivers license.

    Do Electric Bikes require insurance?

Currently in the United States electric bikes do not require insurance, but you should check your local laws and regulations.  This may change.

Theft is a real issue with E-bikes and regular bikes so you might want to check with your Homeowners insurance or Renters insurance to see if you can get your E-bike covered.

Flying with Your Electric Bicycle

Most E-Bike batteries are more powerful than the airlines will accept as baggage.  Airlines are afraid of fires caused by a large battery shorting out and causing a fire.  If you are travelling by air you could ship your battery by UPS ground and have it get to where you are going before you do.  The E-bike without the battery should be able to ship as luggage for most airlines.

The boxed E-bike without the battery will probably be oversize and will cost significantly more than a regular bag.
